A crop is the annual or season's yield of any plant that is grown in significant quantities to be harvested as food, as livestock fodder, fuel, or for any other economic purpose. This category includes crop species as well as agricultural techniques related to cropping. There are many types of crops that are used for industrial purposes. For example, crops are grown and harvested for the sole purpose of making profit and feeding people, as they are grown in large amounts in a certain area suitable for growing crops. Was that a western province of CANADA...? If you do indeed live in Canada, I'm not sure I would suggest tomotoes and peppers, it might be too cold for them to produce relably. Sometimes it isn't so much what you grow but how you process it or market it. Here are a few suggestions: 1.) Do a little research at your local grocery store or farmer's market to find out how much things are selling for. If it costs a lot at the store it either was shipped a long way to get there or is a valuable in-demand crop. 2.) Find out what grows well locally and what is too abundant (other growers in your area grow plenty of it already). 3.) Look for ways to extend your growing season... Q. I'm writing a short story/novel (not sure yet) and I'm trying to figure out different options to use that would destroy the worlds crops and cause world hunger. If the sun were blocked or gone etc, we could just use sun lamps (artificial light) but what are some things that would take it a step further so That couldn't be done as well? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Asked by Sean - Mon Dec 7 12:25:29 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. you might use a gamma ray burst from a star a thousand light years away going super nova. but that will probably just kill all of us & vegetation would survive. probably the most likely scenario for your purposes would be an eruption from the Yellowstone super volcano that occurs every 1/2 to 3/4 of a million years or so. that will cause a nuclear winter for a few years when it finally happens again so no crops can be grown, except for mushrooms perhaps. incidentally you could only grow enough to feed a few thousand people using artificial lights due to the high power requirements. a better scenario would be scientists manufacturing a food product in factory's directly from basic elements without using plants. good luck with your… [cont.] Answered by Ms Nomer - Mon Dec 7 17:08:32 2009 What do you think of genetically modified crops?
Q. I just want people's opinions on the subject. Is it good, is it bad? I'm all for GM crops but I want to know what others think. Asked by Jay S - Tue Jan 22 21:24:36 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. GM crops are the best thing that has happened to agriculture in years. If you have ever raised soybeans you would know what a joy it is to drive down miles of soybean fields and not see a weed. GM crops get such a bad reputation from activist groups like Greenpeace who literally don't know what they are talking about. They play on people's emotions and not facts, because the facts are against them. I am not a fan of Monsanto but they spent millions developing their product and have a right to patent it. People who save the seed from their crops and plant them are breaking the law. You are not forced to use the seeds, but if you choose to then you have to pay for the right.
