What are your favourite cereals & how do you eat them?
Q. Mine are; Crunchy nut cornflakes, which I crush down into little bits before adding milk (apart from getting more into a cereal bowl, it also strangely tastes better!). Then Shreddies or Frosted wheats - with these I let them soak in the milk for about 5-10 mins before eating. Again, they taste better like this. What are your favourite cereals and do you do anything to them?

A. I love sugar puffs and frosted shreddies, with ice cold milk, not too much to make the cereal mushy though, gotta have crunch. I love frosties too, infact, I love 'em all.

When did you start your baby on solids and cereals?
Q. and also the cereal. My pediatrician told me to start the cereals at 5mths and solids at 6mths...does this sound about right?

A. Okay, racking the memory here. Older daughter, tried to start her at around 4-5 months on cereals. Did not show much interest. Eventually got her to eat cereal and then introduced fruits. They usually ended up on my shoulder. At 6 months, while on vacation, we noticed that she was trying to grab forks and spoons from us and we said, okay, lets try fruit again. She took to it immediately. Younger daughter, completely different story. She was a bigger baby to start, refused to be supplemented with formula and we started cereal at around 4 months and she loved it. Slowly introduced the strained baby food and had no problems. The only foods I would not give them was the strained meats. They didn't appeal to me and I didn't think they would… [cont.]

Why do they keep changing the taste of cereals?Give your opinion?
Q. I am a child of the 80's. I remember how cereals use to taste, now they want to add awful tasting whole grains and other stuff. If a person doesn't want sugar cereals, then don't buy them. Not everyone wants to eat whole grain, less sugar cereals. Why should the rest of us have to suffer with expensive, bland tasting products?Bring back original cereal recipes. Golden Grahams,Trix,Honey Comb,Kix,Cocoa Puffs, cinnamon toast crunch,Capn' Crunch,Cookie crisp, etc are not the same anymore.

A. I totally agree with you. I'm a child of the 70's, and I've noticed how they've fluoresced the colors of Trix and Froot Loops, removed the word "sugar" from the names of (super sugar) Crisp and (sugar) Pops and (sugar) Frosted Flakes. Recently I noticed that the appearance of Apple Jacks has changed and Peanut Butter Crunch tastes downright bland. I suspect what's really going on is an overall cheapening of the quality of breakfast cereals across the board. These companies are under price pressure these days, and they're probably making at least some of their changes in order to save money. Others on here said that innovation is the way things are done. But that rule has never applied to food--people like their food to remain… [cont.]

What are some good fortified cereals for vegans?
Q. The day I decided to be vegan, I realized that my Multi-Grain Cheerios are almost perfect for vegans. It provides 100% of like 10 or 12 vitamins & minerals. Including B12, Iron, and Zinc. Almost like it was made for vegans. Anyways, in case I ever get tired of this I'd like to know if there are any other cereals that have at least a decent amount (since other Cheerios has at least 30 or so % of each) of all these vitamins and minerals.

A. Total is the first thing that comes to mind. For a treat try Apple Jacks. They are fortified also and sweet.

What is the best alternative to sugar when we are using have breakfast cereals? honey? Ignoring low cal sweet?
Q. I know that the low calorie sweeteners are not good for health in long run so I was wondering which is a good alternative for sugar when having cereals. Is it Honey?
Asked by smart - Wed Mar 31 07:50:24 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. honey also has sugar and adds to calories. if you can burn your calories you can add honey or sugar to your cereals or else have them without sugar. cereals have carbohydrates which are in turn converted into sugars in the body. the sugars we add gives sweetness and adds calories to our diet.

what is the right time of feeding cereals for babies?
Q. Is it right to feed the baby cereals even if he is just 4 and half months? I am breastfeeding, but right now I am not feeling better. Ive got colds and cough because of travelling, but its almost a week now. I am just wondering if this will affect my milk. I stop breastfeeding my son, until I got better I will continue feeding him. Just need some advice or any experience/information you could share.

A. You can start feeding him cereal now, but it's really better to wait till 6 months. It is more important for him to get milk now than anything else. Your being sick will not affect the quality of your milk... If anything, it will build up immunity in your baby. Keep up the breastfeeding! Good for you!!!

A. I admit that I sometimes fall into the habit of giving my children only cereal for breakfast--it's quick and easy and they love it. However, something I've done to balance it out is to give them first a bowl of oatmeal or cream of wheat or even cracked whole wheat with milk and a little brown sugar (a little, less than a spoonful) before they can have their second bowl of "sweetened cereal" )what we call it around here. A. We started out giving our first daughter rice cereal, but everytime after she ate it, she got a tummyache and cried for a long time. So then we switched her to oat, and she did fine with that. When she had been on it for awhile, we switched to multigrain. With our second child, we just started out with oat. Oat is actually more nurtitious anyway! :)

Who's brilliant decision was it to switch all the good breakfast cereals over to Whole Grain???
Q. I'm mad because they screwed up Honey Nut Chex which was my favoite cereal. Now it tastes like Honey Nut Cardboard. Even worse most the cereals I used to enjoy as a child, taste horrible now.
